To say we're excited about this is the understatement of the century. It's going to be the holiday of a lifetime and it's only been made possible only because of the heroic efforts of Dr Lesley Kuliukas. She has given so much of her blood, sweat and tears to her work running the Midwifery course at Curtin University. She's worked ridiculous hours every week for what seems like an eternity now. Leb went that extra mile and then another hundred, going well above and beyond the call of duty that any university could reasonably expect. She's run herself ragged, taking on a few very awkward and objectionable students. That she shouldered far more than her fair share of work over all this time was proven when Curtin realised the number of staff they'd need to replace her when she went. Two staff, are down to work for three days, doing what Lesley did on her own as well as everything else.
But soon, this madness will end and Leb will go on a year long sabbatical around the world. One good thing about Curtin University is they offer long service leave and had a scheme where if a member of staff agreed to work for four years at 80% of one's salary, they could then have a year off on that same salary.
"Thank you!" Lesley though. I'll have some of that!
So Thank YOU, dear Leb, as I will have the absolute privilege of spending most of that year with you.
This blog will record our adventures as we tour the world. At least, that's what we currently are thinking of doing. We'll see how we go.
